I'm Going to BritMums Live 2014

I'm going to BritMums Live 2014

Name: Emma

Blog: A Blissful Life

Twitter ID: @Blissful_Mama

Height: 5ft 6" or 168cm depending on which system you operate in

Hair: dark brown and bob ish

Eyes: Hazel - likely to have glasses on if I am actually trying to see anything (sometimes I take them off when I am tired of visual stimulation!)

Is this your first blogging conference?

No, it will be my 4th (I came to BritMums Live last year and have been to Mumsnet BlogFest twice too)

Are you attending both days?

Absolutley - won't miss a second if I can help it!

What are you most looking forward to at BritMums Live 2014?

As a professional woman who is currently devoting most of my time to parenting a toddler, the most amazing thing for me is to be surrounded by other intelligent and professional women who are doing the same, to hear their stories and be inspired. It is great to know that we are all more than just mums, but that at the same time acknowledging that being just mums is brilliant too - an amazing privilege in fact - though sometimes tiresome, messy and frustrating.

I love the dialogue, about serious issues, intellectual topics, and poop. I love the ways that mums can combine them all, with humility and humour.

It's the sisterhood!

The session with Paul Armstrong is always a favourite of mine.

I am a little bit excited about seeing the Good Enough Mums Club too!

What are you wearing?

No specific plans, but most likely a dress (you don't have to worry about coordinating two items and you look a bit smart without any real effort!) and it will probably be blue, 'cos most of them are!

What do you hope to gain from BritMums Live 2014?

Lots!

But most significantly...

Catching up with people I've met before, meeting people in real life that I have bonded with online, finding new friends and new blogs to follow.

Inspiration, ideas, collaboration, technical advice, and lots of things I can't even predict!

I have neglected my blog a bit of late due to other commitments, so it will be great to get some inspiration and get back into it with renewed vigour.

Do you have any tips to pass on to others who may not have been before?

Yes!

BritMums Live will make you laugh and make you cry. It will make feel invincible and make you feel shy. You will learn heaps, and be both overwhelmed and inspired. You will connect with people that you never imagined, and others that you have known for a while, if only in the virtual sense. You will be empowered and enlightened, and at the same time feel humbled and privileged.

In my experience there are very few bloggers that are cliquey and self important - most people are just like you and me, feeling a bit shy and looking to meet new people and make new friends, so reach out and talk to them - they will be very grateful!

If there are bloggers that you follow that you would like to meet, try to arrange it in well in advance as it is hard once you are there. Twitter is a good way - make sure you are connected on twitter, then tweet them once you are there and know a good place and time to meet. You might even want to go to a session together. Tweet where you will be each time and what you are wearing - you never know who might have similar interests, or be following your story and want to say hello.

Stay for the social eating and drinking bits if you possibly can, and talk to anyone you dare. They are all brilliant people!

The amount of information, ideas and inspiration will be overwhelming - it takes a while to come down and digest all that you have seen, heard and learnt - enjoy the buzz, and be prepared for sleepless nights as you process it all. A notebook is essential for jotting down all your ideas!

When choosing sessions, I find they generally fall into three categories, technical/practical, inspiring/humbling, and fun/funny. Try and chose a balance of all three.

That's all for now - I hope to meet you there!
